Documenting the viability of a pregnancy and establishing an accurate due date are important first steps in prenatal care. Early viability is demonstrated with a rising quantitative serum HCG and adequate serum progesterone levels. A normal thyroid test (TSH) and a prenatal vitamin decrease the risk of miscarriage and birth defects. Early pregnancy symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, headaches and constipation are treated symptomatically. Older mothers are genetically screened at 11 weeks gestation for Down's syndrome. After 12 weeks gestation, continued prenatal care is transferred to an obstetrician.
Once you are pregnant your health insurance should cover the cost of care. There may be a deductible before your insurance begins to pay, and there may be a co-pay when the insurance begins to contribute. Olympia Women's Health accepts most insurances. If the insurance refuses to pay for your OB visits, ultrasounds or blood work, then you will be billed at cash prices through Olympia Fertility. See Olympia Fertility for more information.
